Once again, Occupy Albuquerque marches on.  Today, the group started from the home base of Coyote Camp and marched to downtown Albuquerque.  Many banks were visited, but the final spot of protest before the return home was at the intersection of 4th and Central – the heart of downtown Albuquerque.  Photos from today. Occupy Albuquerque The Protest Heard Around the World Oct 15 2011 #ows #globalchange #occupyburque

Today was a most phenomenal day!  I arrived early at Coyote Camp and shortly before the scheduled noon protest at Wells-Fargo in Nob Hill, we gathered together to march as one to the meeting point.  There were approximately 75 of us leaving from Coyote Camp.  When the rest of the protest came into view, it was a glorious site… hundreds and hundreds had already gathered!  It is difficult to estimate the size of a crowd constantly in motion, but I would estimate there were upwards to 800 people at peak time. Occupy Albuquerque | A day in Coyote Camp Oct 10, 2011

I spent the day in Coyote Camp, which is the home base for the Occupy Albuquerque, in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and the rest of the country.  Here are some photos taken from today. As you can see, it is a peaceful place where parents brought their children who played, and also helped carry the message of the Occupy Movement.

Occupy Albuquerque Oct 8 2011 Day #8

Occupy Albuquerque set up camp, now called Coyote Camp, last Saturday, Oct. 1st, on the UNM (University of New Mexico) campus on the corner of University and Central Ave.  During the past week, the campers have received permission to remain on campus, but needed to relocate to another area due to the elderly trees in the vicinity of the original camp.  The move was peaceful, and the new location actually adds more visibility for the protesters.  Today, Occupy Albuquerque combined efforts with an Anti-War protest as they marched down Central Ave. (more…)

Special Shapes Day at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Oct 7 2011

Sadly, this was not a good day for the Special Shapes. Besides being cold, it was wet. The weather was not in the favor of the pilots as it had rained all night, and was drizzling into the wee morning hours. Eventually, the rain let up for about an hour, and a few of the Special Shapes and teardrops tethered on static line for the spectators to view. I dressed in many layers, but my fingertips were frozen and numb. It was difficult to use the camera, but I did manage a few nice shots. Weather is to improve over this coming weekend as the Fiesta comes to a close for 2011. (more…)

More photos from Occupy Albuquerque | Oct. 1, 2011

Here are more photos taken from Occupy Albuquerque on Saturday, October 1, 2011.

Occupy Albuquerque was a peaceful success.  Several of us arrived early to begin setting up, and very quickly many more joined.  At one point in time, we counted 197 people – and then, almost at the blink of an eye, the numbers nearly doubled.  Albuquerque sidewalks are rather narrow – this is a sleepy desert town – and as the crowd swelled, there was little place else to go but step in the streets.  (more…)
