Sandia Ranch Sanatorium, an abandoned haunted insane asylum | Vol. 3

Sandia Ranch Sanatorium is one of Albuquerque’s local urban legends. An old abandoned insane asylum which was known for performing lobotomies and using electro-shock therapy is reported to be haunted. Several rumors exist including those of murder in addition to how the staff would store the bodies of the “batched” lobotomies in the crawl space in the boiler room.

When the Images speak to me they say “is the chamber loaded and is the safety off? Phillip

The photos speak to me as well. They say stay out of this place! I have been in places quite similar and in retrospect; I could have taken my photography somewhere else as interesting, but less dangerous.

For those who don’t know; there is a safe zone right behind the camera where photographers exist (or think they do) in a state of corporeal grace.

Oh, jeez. You can see how often I check this site…. I just now logged in and saw your comments. Well, Phillip, so glad you came over to Motley Photos to check out my photography! The asylum is a great place for photos, for sure.

I took some photos a an abandoned asylum in Los Angeles. It was scary and it was DARK. There were people who slept there and shot up there. It was unsafe to say the least. It was interesting and that was the lure for me. After I left the premises, my wife who worked at a hospital, landed me the job of photographing the asylum for investors who wanted to possible incorporate the asylum into the hospital. I ask a HIGH price for the job and was mercifully declined. Someone did the job with a point and shoot. The asylum became a mall which failed. Maybe the restless spirits were bad for business.
